Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Raise Awareness on High Blood Pressure

The women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. are raising awareness on an important health issue they call a “silent killer,” The Freeport News reports.

The Pi Upsilon Omega Chapter of AKA reportedly partnered with Sawyer’s Fresh Market, Registered Nurse Vernita Russell and Registered Nurse Lesia Knowles to host a three-hour High Blood Pressure Awareness Campaign.

Sawyer’s Fresh Market was able to identify healthy food choices that would minimize risk of high blood pressure.

Russell explained it was important for individuals to know their “family history” when evaluating blood pressure.

The event was successful as 141 people ranging from age 10 to 77 signed up for a free screening.
