Baltimore has experienced a surge in violence in recent years. The City has recorded at least 319 homicides since the close of November, surpassing the total number of murders in 2016, Fox Baltimore reports.
This means 2016 is Baltimore’s second-deadliest on record on a per-capita basis, with a month left to go. The record was set in 2015, when there were 344 homicides, the Baltimore Sun reports.
The city recorded 290 homicides in 2016. Baltimore’s murder rate hasn’t been high since the early 1990s.
Baltimore currently has less than 100,000 residents than in the 90s, and has more murders.
