A 12-year-old boy has been charged with a felony after he was found in possession of a handgun at school, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The student allegedly showed a friend the unloaded .38-caliber Special before storing it in another student’s backpack at Schmid Elementary School. The handgun was later found by a security official.
The boy allegedly told authorities he brought the gun because he was being bullied, according to the CBS Chicago. He was reportedly arrested and charged as a juvenile with unlawful use of a weapon.
He was then released to his parents, according to NBC Chicago.
