Dex Osama’s Alleged Killers Appear In Court

Two Detroit men have been charged in the slaying of Motor City rapper Dex Osama, according to the Detroit Free Press. Dex, 21, was shot and killed in the early morning of Monday, Sept. 7 following a fight at Crazy Horse gentlemen’s club on City’s Southwest side.

Otis Davis, 46, and Dietrick Odums, 31, reportedly appeared in court Friday on charges of murder in Dex’s death.

Davis faces charges of open murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony firearm. Odums was charged with assault with intent to murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and felony firearm.

Dex’s girlfriend, Chantell Sturdivant, who was dancing at the Crazy Horse on that morning, testified that the “Clean Up Man” rapper poured champagne on her prior to his shooting death.

Dex was upset with Sturdivant for attempting to dance with a man whom they both knew. He signaled her over to him, poured liquor on her and told her to get dressed.

“When he poured the champagne on me, I ran to the back,” she told 36th District Judge Kenneth King and a packed Detroit courtroom during the preliminary examination for the two men charged in Dex’s death.

Sturdivant said she heard a shot while in her dressing room.

A witness tended to Dex’s injuries by applying pressure to his wounds in an effort to keep him alive. Dex told him he was getting cold as the two waited about 20 minutes for an ambulance to arrive, Fox 2 Detroit reports.

According to the witness, Dex’s dying words were: “Please don’t let me die.”

Davis and Odums have proclaimed their innocence. Odums’ attorney, Marlon Evan, said his client was “merely present at the scene of the incident.”

Davis was paroled in 2012 after serving a minimum 20-year sentence for a 1989 second-degree murder case, according to court records obtained by the Free Press. His parole was discharged last year.

The hearing will determine whether Davis and Odums will proceed to trial on felony charges. The next hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
