Did Nathanael Gay Seek Publicity for his ‘Gay Kappa Wedding?’

A Kappa Alpha Psi member and his husband were instantly thrust into the spotlight following a controversial wedding video many felt were inspired by crimson and cream fraternity colors. The video earned the title “Gay Kappa Wedding” by various media outlets.

The video soon turned viral and sparked controversy in the realm of social media. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. member Nathanael Gay and his husband Robert Brown soon found themselves having to defend their wedding planning decision in interviews.

In a Live Huffington Post Segment titled “Gay Phi Gay,” Gay told host Eric Lamont Hill it never crossed his mind that his red and white wedding would be associated with his fraternity.

“Robert and I made this wedding out of love,” he said. “Robert loved the fact he wanted to make the wedding red. It had nothing to do with Kappa Alpha Psi.”

In an interview with the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Gay said the extra attention over his wedding ceremony made he and his husband’s love stronger. Gay blamed the extra attention the video garnered on a media outlet that chose take the video and “run with it.”

“We had no malice intentions by putting our video on YouTube,” he said in an interview with TJMS. “We put our video on YouTube for our friends and family.”

Despite saying this, Gay took to Twitter to ask various media personalities with multitudes of followers to retweet his video. The list of celebrities Gay tweeted includes reality star Ellen Degeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Steve Harvey and Wendy Williams, to name a few.

Gay even referred to his wedding as his “Gay Kappa Wedding.” The couple even have a website dedicated to their wedding and have promoted it heavily since their newfound fame.
