Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman has been extradited to New York City.

Chapo landed in Long Island, NY Thursday night. He will be arraigned in Brooklyn this afternoon, where he will later stand trial on conspiracy and drug charges.

El Chapo, 59, is alleged to be the billionaire criminal mastermind behind the notorious Sinaloa Drug Cartel that has funneled the streets of Chicago with 80 percent of the h—–, c——, marijuana and methamphetamine, according U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as reported by Business Insider. The drugs have a street value of $3 billion.

Chapo’s charges carry a sentence of life in prison.

Prosecutors also want to secure $14 billion in drug profits from Chapo, NPR reports. The 17-count indictment reportedly accuses El Chapo of operating a continuing criminal enterprise, which included murder conspiracy, other drug-related crimes including money laundering, and use of firearms.

El Chapo was nearly captured in October 2015 when Mexican authorities pinpointed his location in a mountain in northwestern Mexico. He suffered injuries in his leg and face during his escape in an ATV.

El Chapo was hiding at a ranch near Cosala in the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains in western Mexico, NBC News reports.

Marines reportedly raided El Chapo’s ranch hideout in helicopters, but were driven back by Guzman’s security forces. The Marines later entered the camp on foot and found cell phones, medication and two-way radios.

El Chapo escaped from a maximum-security prison outside Mexico City in July 2015.

This followed the drug lord’s arrest in Mexico City in February 2014. Guzman was taken without incident in a U.S.-backed Mexican raid on a condominium tower in Mazatlan, Mexico, according to the New York Times.
