Ex-Boyfriend Convicted in Jackson State University Student’s Death Files Appeal

A man convicted in the killing of a Jackson State University student has filed an appeal citing a violation of his rights, 16 WAPT reports.

Stanley Cole, 28, was convicting of killing 20-year-old Latasha Norman in February 2010. He maintains her death was an accident.

The student died after what Cole’s lawyer Matt Eichelberger called a “one-punch homicide,” the Clarion Ledger reports.

Cole is facing a life sentence for the crime.

“A reasonable jury could have found him guilty of manslaughter,” Eichelberger told a three-judge panel of Court of Appeals.

The Mississippi Court of Appeals will make a decision in the case within 200 days.
