Fredo Santana Honors Nelson Mandela

Fredo Santana paid homage to one of the world’s most celebrated human rights activists.

“Rip to Nelson Mandela real Icon,” the “Ring Bells” rapper said.

Nelson Mandela emerged as one of the world’s most renowned human rights figures. Mandela spent 27 years in prison before he was released and captured the South African presidency.

Mandela served as a beacon of hope for a people who were once oppressed in a White minority rule under the racist apartheid system.

Apartheid was South Africa’s system of racial segregation somewhat similar to United States’ Jim Crow Laws. The system was enforced from 1948 to 1994 in the country.

Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was suspected of leading domestic terrorism activities. He reclaimed his freedom in 1990 and later served as South Africa’s president from 1994 to 1999.

Nelson Mandela met his demise Dec. 5 following his bout with health complications.
