G Herbo and Lil Bibby React To Derrick Rose Wearing No. 25 For New York Knicks

G Herbo and Lil Bibby are upset with Derrick Rose being traded to the New York Knicks, but are proud of the number he chose to wear on his jersey in Madison Square Garden. Rose opted to wear number 25, which is the number slain Chicago prep basketball star and fellow Simeon athlete Benji Wilson wore. Rose will be the 13th Knick to wear this number.

“I was honored to have that number,” Rose told NBA.com. “Playing here and wearing that number came with a lot of responsibilities. You’ve got to go out there and play hard when everybody is coming at you. You’re on the court almost every possession.”

Rose previously wore No. 1 for the Chicago Bulls.

Bibby took to IG to post a photo of Rose holding up his new jersey. In his caption, Bibby wrote, “New York for now Chicago forever.”

Benji Wilson was Chicago’s golden child in the early 1980s. Chicago will forever remember the year 1984. It was this year that the Simeon High School student earned his number one basketball player in the nation honor, a Chicago Public League City Championship and an Illinois High School Association state championship. It was also the year the 6’7” guard/forward would meet his demise. Wilson was gunned down after a confrontation with two alleged gang members just two days before he would begin his senior year in high school.

ESPN aired a powerful 30 for 30 documentary piece titled “Benji: The True Story of a Dream Cut Short.” Watch below.
