Supporters have donated over $36,000 to George Zimmerman since he was granted bail at $1 million.
Despite lying about his available finances and a second passport at the time of his initial bond hearing, Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Lester saw fit to grant Zimmerman bail.
In recorded jailhouse calls, Zimmerman spoke with his wife Shelly in loose code regarding available funds.
Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’ Mara told Piers Morgan he was a “bit conflicted” by their decision to solicit donations for his client’s defense strategy.
“We’re trying to deal with the reality that George does not have any funds of his own,” he said. “He can only get those funds from his supporters.”
