Vonno of Stain Gang met a tragic fate after he was gunned down in a senseless act of violence Friday night. Vonno, whose birth name was Jevante Johnson, was an up and coming MC prepping the release of his upcoming mixtape “Go Hard or Go Broke.”
Vonno, 20, was also a loving friend and family man. He leaves behind his girlfriend Kenosha Smith and daughter VaeVae.
Smith honored her late beau with a touching poem titled “Memories.”
From the moment we meet,
To the first time we speak,
Those moments make me weak,
Those moments get me through the week,
The first time we kissed,
I can still taste your lip,
A moment like that I can never forget,
Hot summer nights, we hated to say goodbye,
The beginning was so beautiful, I never cried,
I never thought we would fight,
But I never thought we would be in love,
I never thought in me, you would find a girl you could trust,
After all these years, we still have passionate lust,
After all these years, a simply kiss can end all the irrelevant fuss,
I just lay in my bed and I think about us,
The way that I love you/The way that you hold me,
Our memories are what keep my mind at ease,
The thoughts of our future make me wonder,
Will we get married/Will we last forever,
Will my loyalty to you stay so strong,
I can’t imagine us fading away,
because when you are gone I just want you in every single way,
I’d do anything to be with you everyday,
The people that watched us grow,
Those people know that our love is everlasting,
Our love is fantastic,
Memories are magic.
Smith also took to Twitter to express how deeply affected she is by Vonno’s passing in a series of posts.
“How ima tell my daughter this, she two years old.
“I can’t believe it
“You just bought me a ring two weeks ago. Promised to never leave me. Promised that you would get me a bigger one soon.
“Promised to get me anything I asked for
“Vonnnn why you have to leave me, we been arguing since last weekend
“Y’all dnt understand that the man knew he was about to die, that’s all he been telling me.
“My baby don’t know what’s going on, she hasn’t cried today not once, just rubbing my back and telling me everything will be ok
“I just talked to him ten minutes before. He was supposed to bring Vae some milk. And bring me some money.
“That sh*t hurt. I been being so mean and putting so much pressure on him. Like I’m sorry Von. I love youuuu Von. I love you,” she wrote.
Vonno was a member of the Chicago’s up and coming Hip Hop group “Stain Gang,” which includes members Sago, Mally Mal, Zo Bandz and RK Da King.
Vonno released the single “I Might Die” just days before his death.
Vonno loved his family just as much as he loved his music. He was a loving father to his young daughter. His one wish was to live for his family.
“I can die any day dats why every night I pray dat da lord don’t take me away from my family !” he wrote on Twitter.
