The Detroit music scene was put in the national spotlight in late November, but for the wrong reasons following a brutal attack that took place at Cobo Hall. The assault occurred between East Side Detroit rappers Green Guy Webbie and Icewear Vezzo’s camp and West Side rapper Doughboyz Cashout’s HBK.

The assault ultimately led to HBK being knocked unconscious.

Webbie sat down with “More Than Music” to shed light on the incident.

Webbie slammed news outlets for, saying the “media blew it out of proportion.”

“Sometimes, the news can be very negative,” he said. “That did add flame onto the fire.”

HBK was robbed of his “72” chain during the melee. Webbie posted a photo of himself wearing the stolen chain on Instagram.

Webbie later denied his role in the attack in statements posted to Twitter.

“THE MEDIA SO CRAZY PEOPLE DON’T EVEN NO WHAT WENT DOWN PEOPLE WILL SAY ANYTHING

“THE MEDIA WILL SAY AND BELIEVE ANYTHING IF YOU WASN’T THERE SHUT THE FUCK UP AND I DO NOT HAVE THAT CHAIN AND YES I DID TAKE A PIC WIT IT,” he wrote.

Webbie told MTM he is not a “chain thief.”

“I’m a nigga out here getting my own money. Me and my crew doing good,” he said. “We all got new cars, condos… what we out here tryna take a nigga chain for?

Webbie said the ordeal began HBK “bumped” him in the bathroom. The two came blows upon their second interaction upon leaving Cobo Hall.

“…So I see him and ask him do he got a problem. He got to talking slick. He backed up like he was about to hit me, so I swung first,” Webbie explained. “That’s what I was doing. It happened and I can’t take it back. It is what it is.”
