Informant Leads Police to Black Fraternity Hazing Ritual at University of Virginia

A fraternity at University of Virginia is under investigation for allegedly hazing pledges, according to Daily Progress.

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., a historically black fraternity founded at Howard University, reportedly engaged in hazing rituals during the summer break. One pledge may have suffered broken ribs, according to a search warrant filed Wednesday in Charlottesville Circuit Court.

A university police witness pledges being beaten by a member of the fraternity’s Lambda Zeta chapter. The chapter is inactive on the school’s campus, according to the university’s Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life website.

A university police officer received a tip from an informant with details of the location where the alleged hazing rituals were taking place. The anonymous informant told police that pledges received calls every night between midnight and 3 a.m. instructing them to head to a designated location where they would be hazed.

The officer witnessed the alleged hazing take place on July 18 at 1 a.m. where four shirtless males, one fully clothed male and two females were present.

The officer reportedly saw the fully clothed male beating one of the shirtless males simultaneously on each side of his torso area for about 30 seconds, according to the search warrant.

University officials have declined to comment on the investigation, according to the Daily Progress.

Omega Psi Fraternity, Inc. is the first black fraternity founded at a historically black college university. Founded on Nov. 17, 1911, the fraternity is dedicated to its Cardinal Principles of manhood, scholarship, perseverance and uplift. The fraternity’s members include civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson, NBA legend Michael Jordan and comedian and philanthropist Bill Cosby, to name a few.

I never will understand why ppl would go through crazy things just to be apart of a group. It’s so sad and even more sad that universities allow it. Fraternities are gangs idc what anyone says. Ppl need to find God and stop searching for things that won’t bring them happiness. Don’t sell your soul for a fame and fortune. In this case why would you diminish your morals to be accepted by others

Ppl are so corny!!! Grow uppp and understand that these the things you have to do to get into these fraternities and sororities are not worth your soul and losing your morals
