An Iraqi woman was found severely beaten in an apparent hate crime inside her home. Shaima Alawadi was found unconscious Wednesday by her 17-year-old daughter and taken to hospital where she was placed on life support, ABC News reports. She died Saturday afternoon after being taken off life support.

A note reportedly was left next to her in her home reading, “go back to your country.”

Alawadi’s daughter Fatima Al Himidi was distraught as she spoke with ABC News affiliate KGTV.

“A week ago they left a letter saying this is our country not yours you terrorist, and so my mom ignored that thinking it was just kids playing a prank,” Alawadi’s daughter, she told ABC News affiliate KGTV. “But the day they hit her, they left another note again, and it said the same thing.”

Al Himidi suspects a hate crime was the motive because no items were taken from their home.

Police are still investigating the crime.
