Chicago Cop Who Fatally Shot Laquan McDonald Indicted On Murder Charges

This Chicago cop who is accused of fatally shooting Laquan McDonald appeared in court Friday to be indicted on first-degree murder charges, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The hearing for Jason Van Dyke lasted on 30 seconds. Dyke was swarmed by angry protestors upon leaving Leighton Criminal Court Building.

Dyke was released from jail last month after posting 10 percent of his $1.5 million bond.

Van Dyke, who faces a first-degree murder charge, was granted bond after his attorney, Daniel Herbert, told Judge Donald Panarese Jr. that his client was no threat to the public and should be given a reasonable bond, according to USA Today.

Judge Panarese Jr. reportedly noted before setting bail that Van Dyke is presumed innocent.

Van Dyke, 37, is seen in surveillance footage firing 16 rounds into the 17-year-old Laquan McDonald even while he lay on the ground. An autopsy found McDonald had bullet wounds in his chest, neck, back, arms and right leg.
