Kevin Hart Wears Dress On Saturday Night Live, Responds To Critics

Is it true that Hollywood elects to emasculate strong black actors?

Popular comedian Dave Chappelle once said during an interview with Oprah Winfrey that many black actors have worn dresses at points in their careers.

“I’m a conspiracy theorist to a degree,” Chappelle told Oprah. “I can connect dots that maybe shouldn’t be connected. But certain dots like when I see that they put every black man in the movies in a dress at some point in their careers. I be connecting the dots like ‘Why all these brothers gotta wear a dress?’”

Chappelle revealed he was approached to wear dress in “Blue Streak” starring Martin Lawrence.

Kevin Hart is one such comedian/actor whose career is traveling at blazing speeds. Hart has been able to expand his comedic brand to crossover audiences.

Hart is currently receiving backlash for wearing a dress on Saturday Night Live.

Hart took to Twitter to respond to criticism he received for the sketch he appeared in.

I WORE A DRESS ON SNL because I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY!!! I made that decision..NOBODY MADE IT FOR ME…I AM MY OWN BOSS!!!!

“comment on DA positive stuff like DA fact that not many Black Comedians have had the chance to do SNL, Look at the big pic b4 u TEAR IT DOWN

with that being said I will continue to do what I do best which is make people laugh…NOW BACK TO UR REGULARLY SCHEUDLED PROGRAMMNG #THUG

This is a message to everyone on my timeline that has a opinion about me wearing a dress in the SNL sketch…

Many find Hart’s words hypocritical due to an interview with Black Tree where he said he has “boundaries” and wouldn’t let anyone coerce him into wearing a dress.

“I definitely haven’t ran into putting on a dress,” Hart told Black Tree. “You have to have boundaries. You have to have limits that you refuse to cross. For me, I know what they are. They have yet to be challenged. I was asked to dribble a basketball on the talk show this morning.. I was like ‘No, I’ma look stupid.’ At the end of the day, you gotta know that you are a brand. I’m a brand. You need to protect your brand at all times. When things happen that possibly affect your brand, your brand can be diminished… protecting my brand is definitely a priority.”
