Meek Mill To Donate $50K To Flint, MI Amid Water Crisis, Challenges 50 Cent To Do The Same

Meek Mill is offering to donate $50,000 to the people of Flint, MI just days after President Obama declared a state of emergency in the Great Lake State due to the discovery of lead contamination in its water source.

Meek posted a screen capture of a post from community activist @RaspyRawls who challenged him and 50 Cent to put their energy into saving lives rather than beefing.

@RaspyRawls wrote, “Somebody tell @MeekMill & @50cent the ppl in #Flint #Michigan could use some water.. Their lives depending on it.. #DontWasteEachOthersTime.”

Meek requested to 50 Cent to match his donation amount.

He wrote, “I got 50k to donate to waters … Let’s see if we can have @50cent match me! I’m pretty sure “flint” supported us! Serious post contact …. Roc nation will purchase for me and ship! Not even just him all entertainers! I ain’t got the tine posting memes and shit… “Way too trill for that” @dallaslifestyle It’s my dawg hometown too! #FORMLKDAY.”

Though Flint is only 70 miles from the Great Lakes, its water source is anything but fresh. In 2014, government officials decided to save money by switching Flint’s water supply from Lake Huron to the Flint River. The highly corrosive river was discovered to contain iron, which gave it a brown color. This was due to the state Department of Environmental Quality failing to treat the river water with an anti-corrosive agent, a violation of federal law. The agent would’ve cost $100 a day. Children tested positive for high levels of lead in their blood.

African Americans comprise 60 percent of the people in Flint.
