Mother of Dead Cornell Hazing Victim Feels Betrayed by Judicial System

The mother of a Cornell University student who died in a hazing ritual wants retribution for her son’s death.

Marie Lourdes Andre plans to sue the Sigma Alpha Epsilon in civil court for the death of 19-year-old George Desdunes. She filed a $25 million wrongful-death suit against the fraternity and 20 of its members, The New York Daily News reports.

Desdunes, who aspired to be a doctor, died of alcohol poisoning after he was allegedly tied up and forced to drink vodka.

Tomkins County Judge Judith Rossiter found three freshmen fat pledges- Max Haskin, Ben Mann and Edward Williams- not guilty misdemeanor hazing, according to The NY Daily News.

William Driedlander, Andre’s lawyer, told the Daily News his client is “very upset,” but “looking forward to seeing justice is done in the civil action.”
