Three Penn State students have been officially charged in a hazing incident that had garnered national attention in April, CBS 21 reports.
Former Penn State student Asya Trowell filed charges after being beaten in a hazing ritual while pledging Omega Essence, an auxiliary group to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Trowell, 18, allegedly suffered two black eyes and a bloody nose during the process.
The students charged in the case are Bianca Jeanty, Hanif Johnson and Felicia Ragsdale. They each have been charged with simple assault, conspiracy and two counts of harassment.
Johnson was a track and field standout at Penn State excelling in the long jump. His talent earned him All-American status in the triple jump.
All students were prevented from walking during graduation.
Trowell’s attorney is pleased about the official charges.
“Now that they are filing criminal charges she almost feels validated on her story and can almost totally move on,” he said in an interview with CBS 21.
Trowell is sharing her story nationally. Her story will be featured in Seventeen Magazine where the publication is profiling her case as a lesson to young girls, CBS 21 reports.
