Penn State Student Presses Charges Against Omega Essence and Omega Psi Phi in Hazing Incident

A Penn State student has pressed charges against members of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and its sister group “Omega Essence” in an alleged hazing incident. Neither group is affiliated with the university.

Asya Trowell filed a criminal complaint after she attempted to pledge as a “little sister” in “Omega Essence.” Trowell attempted to join the group because she “liked hanging around the Omegas,” CBS 21 reports.

As a pledge, Trowell was beaten along with two other pledges in a hazing ritual that landed her in the hospital, CBS 21 reports.

“We were taken to a basement of a home where we were basically beat, I was beat until I was bleeding,” Trowell told CBS 21. “The abuse took hours. We were hit in the face, I was beat until I was bleeding.”

“I got to a point where my physical body was there but my mind was somewhere else, it was a complete nightmare, it was torture,” she said.

The next morning following the April 10 incident, Trowell went home to Maryland where her mother took her to the emergency room. She reportedly received emergency room treatment for blunt force trauma and other issues form the beating.

In a police report obtained by CBS 21, four victims are listed and four suspects are being investigated, including two members of Omega Psi Phi.
