Reverend Jesse Jackson & Hadiya Pendleton’s Mother, Cleo, Hold Peace Rally In Chicago

Reverend Jesse Jackson formed a coalition with several community organizations to make a plea for peace during a rally in South Side, Chicago, according to WGN news.

Jackson was joined alongside Pastor Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina Church and Cleo Pendleton, the mother of slain teen Hadiya to protest Illionois’ new concealed-carry law.

“How many more marches we have to have? How many more trips to Washington that go unanswered,” Pendleton asked participants in the rally.

Pendleton’s daughter Hadiyah was the victim of a stray bullet as she was caught in the cross fires of a drive-by shooting.

“Back in January, my daughter was number forty plus,” Pendleton continued. “Now we’re talking over a weekend, 81 shootings. Just a couple weeks ago it was 65.”

Chicago gun violence continues to plague the urban environment.

Pfleger is urging businesses to posts signs on their doors that read, “No Guns Allowed.”
