Rising Chicago Prep Basketball Star, Michael Whitney, Shot To Death By Own Brother

Gunplay claimed the life of a promising Chicago basketball player Friday.

Malcolm Whitney, a 16-year-old basketball player at Hyde Park Academy, was killed at the hands of his own brother in their home.

Michael Whitney, 19, grabbed his father’s semi-automatic handgun from a drawer, removed its clip and used it to taunt his younger brother, The Chicago Tribune reports.

The gun allegedly went off after Malcolm reached for weapon. He was killed being struck once in the head, according to Yahoo Sports.

Michael initially tried to cover the murder up by alleging an assailant shot through the bathroom window. He eventually admitted to the murder.
