Students Study Papoose’s ‘Nacirema Dream’ Lyrics In College Course

Papoose has long been regarded as one of New York City’s premier MCs.

The Brooklyn native intertwines life experiences with poetic lyricism to paint a vivid picture for fans, so they may get a sense of how the world is viewed through his eyes.

Papoose had the honor of being incorporated into college lesson plans after a professor decided it would of educational benefit for students to decode lyrics from the Bed-Stuy rapper’s 2013 digitally released album “The Nacirema Dream.”

Papoose posted an image of a college class studying his lyrics to his Instagram account.

“College students studying my lyrics in class wow I’m honored #naciremadream iTunes now,” the caption on the photo read.

“Nacirema Dream,” independently released March 26, 2013, debuted at number 97 on the U.S Billboard 200. The album was long overdue as it debuted seven years after it was officially announced.

“Nacirema” is American spelled backwards, Papoose told Hip Hop DX.

“Some people get up to go to work. Some people hustle. People come from all different corners of the Earth, risk their life getting here in search of that American dream,” he told the Hip Hop blog. “My struggle growing up in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, being successful in the music industry, and going through all the trials and tribulations I went through in my life – “Nacirema Dream” is a reflection of that.”
