University of Mississippi Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority Sister Killed in Plane Crash



A deadly crash in Prentiss County claimed the lives of three persons, according to WMC-TV.

Caroline Bartley, an Alpha Omicron Pi sorority member from Ole Miss, was killed in the along with her parents, Terri and James Bartley, Jr.

Authorities suspect a severe thunderstorm was to blame for the crash. The family was flying to Oxford from their vacation home in the North Carolina Mountains, WMC-TV reports.

The plane, a small, single-engine Piper 300, exploded in pieces across a one-mile area, according WMC-TV.

Caroline’s sorority released a statement expressing grief for her loss.

“As an organization founded solely on the premise of friendship, a loss of one of our members is always felt throughout all of our chapters across North America. Alpha Omicron Pi sends its deepest condolences to Caroline’s siblings, the entire Bartley family and to the sisters of the Nu Beta Chapter with which she devoted so much of her time. In this time of tragedy, it is our hope that each of these ladies can find some comfort in the strong bonds of sisterhood within Alpha Omicron Pi.”
