A 14-year-old Chicago girl was fatally shot Monday afternoon following a fight with another group of girls on her way home from school.

But the altercation turned deadly after someone from the opposing group pulled out a gun and started shooting, according to Fox 32.

Victim Endia Martin fled when shots rang out, but was shot in the back. She was transported to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital where died, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. A 16-year-old girl reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and was taken to St. Bernard’s Hospital and Healthcare Center in stable condition.

The teen’s parents, Kent and Jonie Dukes Kennedy, told Fox 32 the confrontation resulted from a Facebook dispute.

“We don’t even know, we don’t really know, only thing we know is there were some words exchanged on Facebook,” the teen’s mother said.

The slain teen’s father described his daughter a “beautiful child” and “nice spirit,” according to Fox 32.

Authorities have charged a 14-year-old girl as a juvenile with first-degree murder Tuesday, according to the Sun-Times. The girl’s uncle and another individual, ages 17 and 24, have also been arrested and charged with the gun that was used in the shooting, according to ABC 7. Sun Times reports one of the individuals brought the gun to the scene, knowing there would be a fight.
