A suspect accused of brutally beating and setting a man on fire has confessed to the heinous crime, KHOU 11 news reports.
Houston resident Esterrell Simpson, 18, reportedly told Quanell X, the leader of the New Black Panther Party, the brutal murder was part of a gang initiation into the notorious Black Disciples street gang.
Simpson and two men targeted 30-year-old Carlos Hernandez, an immigrant from El Salvador who was a random victim in their crime.
Quanell X met with Simpson in prison, where she is awaiting trial after being charged with murder.
“This was planned,” Quanell X said. “When she began to describe to me how she was recording it on a phone. She was like I filmed it while they were beating him and I filmed it once he was on fire.”
Second suspect Maurice Eugene Hollis, 24, was also arrested and charged with murder, according to The New York Post. The second suspect remains at-large.
