A Doane College football player died Wednesday, April 26 after falling out of a pickup truck, according to The Associated Press.
Cody Fanning, a 20-year-old junior majoring in business adminsitration, fell out of the truck after 21-year-old driver and fellow teammate Cody Barnes made a sharp turn. Fanning succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
Barnes was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and released on bond, AP reports.
Doane College, a private liberal arts college in Crete, Neb., is grieving the loss of Fanning.
“This is heartbreaking news for Cody’s family and the Doane community,” Doane President Jacque Carter said in a statement on the school’s website. “We extend our deepest sympathy to the family and all who are grieving.”
