Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman suffered injuries in his leg and face while escaping authorities earlier this month, according to USA Today.
El Chapo, who escaped from a high security prison in July, was hiding out in a mountain in northwestern Mexico when Mexican authorities pinpointed his location and made an attempt to arrest him. El Chapo was hiding at a ranch near Cosala in the rugged Sierra Madre Mountains in western Mexico, NBC News reports.
But El Chapo proved to be elusive yet again after fleeing in an ATV.
Marines reportedly raided El Chapo’s ranch hideout in helicopters, but were driven back by Guzman’s security forces. The Marines later entered the camp on foot and found cell phones, medication and two-way radios.
El Chapo escaped from a maximum-security prison outside Mexico City in July.
The drug lord was arrested in Mexico City in February 2014. Guzman was taken without incident in a U.S.-backed Mexican raid on a condominium tower in Mazatlan, Mexico, according to the New York Times.
Jack Riley, the head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration In Chicago, wanted drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera to stand trial in the Windy City.
El Chapo is alleged to be the billionaire criminal mastermind behind the notorious Sinaloa Drug Cartel that has funneled the streets of Chicago with 80 percent of the heroin, cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine, according U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as reported by Business Insider. The drugs have a street value of $3 billion.
