Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman might’ve gotten away if it weren’t for his plans to make a biopic.
Mexican authorities are reported to have gotten help in locating the drug kingpin after he made calls to producers in hopes of getting a movie made about himself, CNN reports
The ruthless leader of the Sinaloa cartel has a story worthy of a Hollywood script. El Chapo has become a legend in the eyes of many after his multiple attempts at successfully evading the law.
In July, El Chapo escaped from Altiplano Federal Prison in Almoloya de Juarez through an underground tunnel. Surveillance footage showed the drug kingpin escaping his cell after slipping through a hole in his shower.
This prison stint lasted less than two years for El Chapo after he was captured in the Mexican resort town of Mazatlan in February 2014.
The ruthless leader of the Sinaloa Cartel was on the run from authorities for more than decade after escaping from Puente Grande maximum-security prison in 2001. His method of escape– a laundry cart.
El Chapo was captured Friday following a firefight.
Photos emerged on the net showing El Chapo in cuffs and in police custody.
A photo was also taken of the weaponry El Chapo had on deck.
Newly surfaced footage also shows El Chapo being placed into a plane after his capture.
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto announced El Chapo’s arrest via Twitter.
“Mission accomplished: We got him. I’d like to inform the Mexicans that Joaquin Guzman Loera has been detained,” the post on his account read.

Five people were killed and one marine was wounded in the operation. Six others were arrested.
