Pasadena police chief Philip Sanchez has invited the FBI to conduct an independent review of an unarmed college student’s shooting by police last month.
Kendrec McDade, 19, was killed on March 24 after police mistook him for a suspect in a robbery. They thought McDade was reaching for a weapon when they opened fire.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller says the federal law enforcement agency is investigating to determine whether a violation of federal civil rights was a factor, The Associated Press reports.
