It’s looks like Gucci Mane won’t be getting out of prison any time soon. Guwop’s attorney Drew Findling told MTV News the Atlanta rapper’s July 11 release date rumor is completely false.
“We do not know where that rumor came from, so that’s just Internet and social media fabrication,” Findling told MTV News. “We have no idea where that release date came from because we’re still in the midst of resolving things with the Bureau of Prisons. There was some confusion on their part, about his release date.”
Findling reportedly didn’t completely rule out the possibility that Gucci could be granted an early release from his three-year sentence, but he emphasized that nothing has been finalized.
“I can’t get into specifics, but we’re in the midst of corresponding with the Bureau of Prisons,” he added. “I’m trying to iron out a specific release date for him, but that I can tell you that is not his release date. There’s nothing formal about that. It’s a product of social media.”
Lil Bank Head, DJ for Atlanta’s Streetz 94.5, made kicked off the rumor mill after announcing Guwop’s alleged release via IG.
“JULY 11 MY HOMIE BACK IN THE STREETS SALUTE,” the caption on one IG post read.
Gucci Mane, whose birth name is Radric Davis, was sentenced to 39 months in prison in August 2014.
Guwop pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in May. Gucci reached a plea deal with prosecutors to serve three years and three months in prison. He faced a maximum of 10 years in jail after being arrested on two counts of felony gun possession.
The “I Heard” rapper was arrested Sept. 14, 2013 after authorities found him in an erratic state with a Glock 40-caliber handgun and 11 rounds of ammunition, according to court documents obtained by AJC. Davis was discovered two days before on Sept. 12 with a Taurus 45-caliber handgun and eight rounds of ammunition.
