Chief Keef did it again. In this cutthroat music industry, it is very difficult to make a hit song or remain relevant for that matter. In this age of social media, people are on one thing and off it the next minute. In 2012, Sosa caught the attention of world after his song “I Don’t Like” went viral. The Glo Gang frontman has since released some solid records that have kept his loyal fanbase satisfied. But many wondered if he could duplicate the success of his 2012 hit.
He did.
On Oct. 2, 2014, Sosa uploaded what would be the turn up anthem of 2015- ‘Faneto.’
This surprise hit record raises the question: Is ‘Faneto’ bigger than ‘I Don’t Like?’
Sosa’s “I Don’t Like” was recorded when he didn’t have anything. As song producer Young Chop recalled during an interview with LRG, “We was just sitting in the crib broke. We just made a song and shot a video.”
DGainz was tapped to film the music video. He posted it onto his Youtube channel on March 11, 2012. The rest is history.
The song peaked at no. 73 on the Billboard Hot 100, no. 20 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart and no. 15 on the Rap Songs chart.
“The record ‘Don’t Like’ came from stuff we don’t like,” Chop told LRG. “We was in the studio one day. We was just vibing. I made the beat. Basically, somebody did something in the studio that somebody didn’t like. Then we was like ‘That’s the sh-t I don’t like.’ That’s how the song came about. Then he just laid it down. He written all the chorus, did two verses; then we had Lil Reese jump on it.”
Sosa echoed this in his This Is 50 interview with Young Jack Thriller.
“I heard some sh-t I ain’t like that made me mad enough to make a song called ‘Don’t Like,’ he said.
Sosa was angry when recording “Faneto.”
Sosa was almost the victim of a robbery attempt during a performance in New Jersey.
He made this known in the record, rapping, “I’m riding through New York/I’m finna shoot New Jersey up/Tryna take my chain, ain’t goin/We gone come and blow New Jersey up.”
It must be noted Chief Keef has yet to promote the single with a music video or anything. The single has amassed 5.6 million views on YouTube despite the lack of promotion.
