Kodak Black thought he was off scotch-free, but his past criminal acts have proved to bite him in the butt. Kodak was set to be released from jail earlier this week until it was discovered he had two active warrants in his name.
Kodak, whose real name is Dieuson Octave, is facing two misdemeanor marijuana charges in St. Lucie County, according to the Sun-Sentinel. He also faces a serious felony charge of criminal sexual misconduct in Florence, South Carolina.
Kodak, who is being held in the Broward Main Jail, was ordered held without bail. Kodak is expected to be extradited to those counties to face his charges.
Kodak was sentenced to once year of house arrest and five years of probation after he pleaded no contest to numerous charges, including robbery false imprisonment, fleeing a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
These charges carried a maximum sentence of 55 years.
The plea deal allowed Kodak to escape being tainted as a convicted felon. He also would’ve been allowed to tour internationally.
Kodak was ordered to community service, anger management and community control supervision.
Kodak’s Atlantic Records family was present at the hearing on Tuesday in support.
Michael Kushner, executive vice president of legal at Atlantic Records, testified on behalf of Kodak.
“He’s only at the very beginning of a very promising career,” he said, according to XXL Mag. “It is our hope that the court will agree that he be given the opportunity to turn his life around.”
This isn’t Kodak’s first arrest. In 2015, Kodak was arrested after allegedly forcing several people into a car after accused someone of breaking into his house.
He was later released on bond, but then arrested once again in April 2016 after police observed him in a drug deal in Hallandale Beach. Kodak then led police on a car chase, ditching a gun in a dumpster before his arrest.
When accepting the plea deal, Judge Lisa Porter had this to say to Kodak:
“I will give you an opportunity, Mr. Octave, to prove yourself here, and be a productive member of society. What happens from here on out is up to you.”
Kodak Black’s mom, Marcelene Octave, openly expressed her excitement after the hearing.
“I love you, baby boy!” she said to Kodak while exiting the courtroom.
