Surveillance footage provides insight into the shooting of 29-year-old Dijon Kizzee by Los Angeles Cunty Sheriff’s deputies Monday.
Kizzee was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputies after he was stopped for “code violations related to his bike riding.”
Kizzee can be seen in the footage resisting arrest by the deputies before running away and falling to the ground. Police then shoot him.
Dijon Kizzee reportedly ran during the bike stop and fought with the deputies when they caught up to him. Kizzee allegedly punched a cop in the face, dropping the clothes he was holding along with a semi-automatic handgun.
The deputies then opened fire, striking the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brandon provided his account of what happened during a press conference earlier this week.
“Our suspect was holding some items of clothing in his hands, punched one of the officers in the face and then dropped the items in his hands,” Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Brandon Dean said at a press conference.
“The deputies noticed that inside the clothing items he dropped was a black semiautomatic handgun. At which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.”
A woman who asked not to be identified described what she saw and heard.
“He dropped the towel, put his hands in the air,” the woman told NBCLA. “The people were saying, ‘Don’t shoot.’ He didn’t have no gun in his hands because when he dropped the towel he put his hands up.”
