Lil Bibby and rap protégé Lil Herb are known to commonly mention “Fazo” or “Fazo Land” in music.
Bibby touched on the significance of “Fazo” when telling online music publication Vice how he earned his nickname.
Bibby, born Brandon Dickinson, touted himself as a very good basketball player and was named after professional athlete Mike Bibby by slain friend Fazon Robinson.
“One of my dead homies—his name Fazon—he just used to call me that a lot, so I just ran with it. And then everybody started calling me that,” he said.
Robinson was murdered on April 12, 2010 in an alleged gang-related shooting. He was 18.
Friends formed “Fazoland” in his honor.
“…In Chicago that’s what we do. Like when somebody dies—not just anybody, but when somebody important dies—you name the neighborhood or whatever after them,” Bibby told Vice.
Lil Herb named forthcoming mixtape “Welcome To Fazoland” after his fallen brethren.
“I got the name of the tape from my homie,” Herb told VladTV. “He passed away. His name is Fazon. We called him Fazo. We named our hood after Fazoland. ‘Welcome To Fazoland’ I’ma give em where I came from, tell em what’s going on out here. It’s a really a story, I’m tryna tell a story. Who I am and where I’m from and how I got to where I am right now.”
