Meek Mill, whose birth name is Robert Williams, was to sentenced to serve three to six months in prison for violating his parole, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The famed MMG artist’s probation reportedly stemmed from a 2009 drug and gun case.
Common Pleas Court Judge Genece E. Brinkley scolded the “Levels” rapper during his court hearing Friday.
“After all these years of me trying to help him move his career forward… I believe this defendant is basically thumbing his nose at me,” she said, according to the Inquirer.
Meek, 27, pleaded with Brinkley to give him another chance.
“It took me 15 years to get here and this will be extremely damaging to my life,” he reportedly said.
Assistant District Attorney Noel DeSantis suggested Brinkley to sentence Meek to 5 to 10 years in prison.
DeSantis showed the court a photo of Meek posing with four men allegedly holding a real semiautomatic pistol. Meek’s attorney Gary Silver denied the weapon’s authenticity, saying it was “prop” used during a photo shoot. DeSantis also cited a tweet where Meek referred to her as a “racist b-tch.”
The reported final straw occurred when Meek booked concert dates during a time Brinkley ordered him to stop performing while she tried to resolve his probation problems.
Meek’s recent sentence affects scheduled concerts between July 11 and August 11, according to the Associated Press. Meek’s scheduled concert appearance in Washington Friday night has been cancelled.
Meek was arrested in September 2012 in New York City on suspicion of concealing a firearm.
Meek took to Instagram to share a photo of himself handcuffed in a room.
“cops cost me a lot of money tonight …..taking pics of me like I’ma fuckin joke….no charges just holding me for shit! my lawyer need answers,” Meek wrote in the caption on his photo.
Meek was later released.
“Ni**a I ain’t get knocked they was just tryna hold me back! Just scooped my ni**a #brick Feds gave him 10yea,” he wrote.
“I ain’t get locked up…definitely not in NYC with no gun! Cops just harassed and violated me last night in Philly just for being famous!”
The crazy part about is I really had a handcuff and Rolex on my wrist yesterday…. Really #DreamsAndNightmares
Meek Mill is currently prepping the release of his sophomore album “Dreams Worth More Than Money,” which is slated to drop Sept. 9.
