Mikey Dollaz made his way to Hip Hop DX headquarters in Los Angeles to reveal his reasoning for jumping into the rap game. Mikey, who recently dropped his project “Street Life 3,” said options to making it out of the hood are very few. Mikey stated to become successful one has to either hoop, dabble in the drugs or rap. He chose the latter.
“Growing up, it’s either you gon make it out the hood hooping, rapping or being one of top drug dealers in the hood,” Mikey told Hip Hop DX. “Most likely, you’re not going to make it too far being the top drug dealer. I got locked up for some stuff when I was shorty. I got locked up for two and a half years. While I was in there, I ain’t really have nothing to do but read. I was always a smart guy. I was bad in school, but I was still smart like getting my work done, but I would still play a lot in school. But when I got locked up, I used to read a lot and write. I just start writing poetry. I used to write poetry to my mom. She used to tell me when I got visits from here, you should start rapping. …I just started doing it when I got it.”
