The mother of the teen who fatally stabbed De’Kayla Dansberry was ordered held without bail for supplying her daughter the murder weapon in the 15-year-old girl’s death, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
Tamika Gayden, 35, was charged with first-degree murder. The fight between Gayden’s 13-year-old daughter and De’Kayla is alleged to have started on social media over a boy.
Prosecutors say a witness told them the teen suspect admitted to killing De’Kayla after she was seen washing blood off the knife and allegedly saying, “I killed her, I killed her,” according to ABC 7 Chicago.
Dekayla was a freshman at Johnson College Prep where she was on the track team. She was to compete at the state meet later this week at Eastern Illinois University.
“It was some type of dispute that turned physical, and it turned into a large group watching them fight. And the other girl pulled out a knife and stabbed her,” police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi told the Chicago Sun Times. “Several people have been questioned, but no one was in custody Sunday afternoon.”
Friends and family held a vigil in Dekayla’s honor last Sunday.
