Former No Limit rapper Mr. Magic, born Awood Johnson, and wife Chastity succumbed to injuries in a tragic car accident Friday, March 1 in Mississippi. The couple’s daughter Twila Wise Johnson was also present in the vehicle during crash, but survived.
Mr. Magic released three albums under No Limit Records, including “Sky’s the Limit, Thuggin’ and “White Eyes.” “Sky’s the Limit,” hit No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and No. 3 on the hip-hop/R&B albums chart.
His last solo album “On My Own,” was released under Koch Records in 2003.
Mr. Magic also joined with Roy Jones, Jr. and Choppa to form Body Head Bangerz. The group released their debut album “Bangerz: Volume One” in 2004.
Fellow New Orleans natives Silkk The Shocker and Mannie Fresh took to social media to send their condolences.
Mannie Fresh uploaded an image of Mr. Magic to his Instagram account.
“R.I.P. MR MAGIC Please keep his family, friends in ur prayers #GreatDude #9thWard,” the caption on the photo read.
Silkk The Shocker wrote on his Twitter account, “Prayers goes to the Family and Friends of Mr. Magic. him and Wife died in a car accident last night..”
