OBlock Ocho is only 19 but he has seen and experienced a lot living in Parkway Gardens in South Side Chicago. Ocho is now turning his focus to music in hopes of making it out.
The “Grind” rapper spoke with Hip Hops Revival about his upbringing and violence in his hometown.
“I moved to O’Block when I was five years old. We didn’t call it O’Block then, it was the Wic,” he said. “My OG used to didn’t want me to go outside She didn’t even let me go outside til I turned nine. …She didn’t want me to go on this street sh-t. I’m some other sh-t. I do this sh-t for her. Move her out of O’Block. Get her a fancy house on them hills.”
Ocho said there is no stopping the violence in Chicago.
“It’s too late to stop that sh-t,” he said. “It ain’t shocking no more. I expect the sh-t. Motherf-ckers die everyday in Chicago.
“I’d give back to Parkway. But it’s all hate in Chicago. I’m tryna make it out this sh-t. Once I make it out, I ain’t looking back. It’s too much hate in this city to wanna care about the next motherf-cker.”
