A Chicago woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the April 30 stabbing death of her boyfriend, according to the Chicago Tribune. She is reportedly being held in lieu of $1 million bail.

Miata Phelan, 24, allegedly stabbed her 28-year-old boyfriend, Larry Martin, for not purchasing her anything from the mall.

The argument first erupted after Martin left the mall with Phelan, his 8-year-old son Lavelle and 25-year-old cousin. Phelan allegedly kicked and scratched Martin on the drive to his brother’s house to drop off shoes, nearly causing the car to swerve, Assistant State’s Attorney Glen Runk told the Chicago Sun Times.

Phelan reportedly took Martin’s vehicle and left after he was finished dropping off the gifts.

Martin, his son and cousin then walked to the couple’s nearby apartment where another argument ensued upon their arrival. Phelan ultimately ended up stabbing Martin in his left abdomen, which young Lavelle reportedly witnessed.

The cousin did his best to stop the flow of blood by applying pressure to the wound as he helped Martin outside where he eventually collapsed.

Phelan allegedly stood over Martin as he lay bleeding, saying, “This is what you get for messing with me! I hope you die, motherf****r!”

Martin’s last words to his son Lavelle as he fought for life, according to the Sun Times, were “I’m gonna die, but I love you.”

Martin was later transported to Advocated Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
