Before Killer Mike started his rapping career, the Atlanta native was once enrolled at the prominent HBCU Morehouse College.
Killer Mike, born Michael Render, told HBCU Mix he went to Morehouse on “a bet.” The “Reagon” rapper said he set out to prove a teacher wrong after he told him he could not accomplish the task.
“I went to Morehouse because I had a homeroom teacher bet me I couldn’t based on the neighborhood I was from, socioeconomic background I was from, Killer Mike said. “He bet me I couldn’t do it.”
Killer Mike revealed he had a full-ride scholarship to Morris Brown College and a partial scholarship to Morehouse. But the emcee decided to call school quits after a year to pursue music and take care of his family.
“I had a kid, so I had to get back on the grind and protect for my child and provide for him at the same.”
Killer Mike’s son is following in his father’s footsteps and now attends Morehouse College.
“It’s a great institution,” he said.
The Atlanta rapper mentioned he only had a partial scholarship to the school. Killer Mike may have found an alternate means to pay his tuition.
In addition to saying he had “a lotta fun” at Morehouse, the rapper also revealed he sold “a lotta weed” there.
