2011 was a break out year for Roc Nation signee J. Cole. Releasing his debut album “Cole World: The Sideline Story” to favorable reviews and over 200,000 first week sales, life couldn’t get any better for the North Carolina native.
But it did.
J. Cole received positive news earlier this week he is nominated for a Grammy award for Best New Artist.
News of the nomination surprised the 21-year-old emcee.
“I wasn’t thinking people had seen what I had done, so I had already kind of prepared myself for the letdown,” he said to The L.A. Times. “But it caught me off guard. It would be incredible to win. That’s an understatement … since I didn’t even expect to get nominated. But I’m not walking in there with the attitude that I’m the guy [to beat]. But if I won, I’d know why. And if I didn’t win, I’d understand.”
