Tyshawn Lee Suspect Charged With First-Degree Murder

Corey Morgan is back in jail less than a week after posting 10 percent of his $1 million bail for a gun charge. Morgan, 27, was arrested alongside Dwight Boone-Doty Monday, Nov. 16 after they left a Hilton hotel in a vehicle. Police confiscated a .40 caliber gun with 12 live rounds and a .45 caliber gun with 14 live round during their stop. Morgan, 27, is now charged with first-degree murder Friday morning for his alleged role in the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Police named Morgan a person of interest two days following Tyshawn’s Nov. 2 murder and brought him in for questioning, but released him the same day.

Police suspect Tyshawn’s murder may have been retribution for the murder of Morgan’s 25-year-old brother Tracey Morgan. Tracey was killed in a shooting incident that also left his mother wounded while they were in a vehicle. The fatal shooting occurred after Tracey and his mother left a police-sponsored “put the guns down” meeting with many of the area’s gang members in attendance.

Tyshawn, a student at Scott Joplin Elementary School, was shot several times in the upper body, including the head and back, ABC 7 Chicago reports. He was laid to rest Tuesday, Nov. 10.
