UC Berkeley Student Succumbs to Wounds

An undergraduate UC Berkeley student who was shot by police officers Tuesday afternoon after pointing a pistol at them succumbed to his wounds at a hospital. Christopher Travis, 32, was shot in the university’s computer lab after ignoring repeated orders to drop his weapon.

A certified life coach and motivational speaker, Travis was considered by many to have turned his life around as he enrolled in the Haas business school after transferring from Ohlone Community College in Fremont.

The suspect’s father Bill Travis spoke with the Associated Press in a brief telephone interview and said he learned his son had been shot Tuesday night and declined further comment.

According to the Associated Press, UC Berkeley police Capt. Margo Bennett described Travis’ behavior leading up to the confrontation as “unusual” but offered no further details and did not say why he might have brought the gun to the Haas School of Business computer lab.
