Young Chop lost a piece of his heart in late March with the loss of his mother. Chop dedicated his latest project “King Chop” to his OG.
It was difficult for Chop to process his mother’s death, which cause him to take a break from music. But Chop later used it as motivation to finish his “King Chop” album
Chop spoke on the contributions his mother made to his music career during an interview with HipHopDX.
“My mama was a big part,” he said. “I used to take her everywhere with me like when I’m in sessions with people, or going out of town and doing shows and stuff like that. I took her everywhere, so she was basically my manager and my road manager and stuff like that so she was really on it.”
Chop told XXL his mother was his motivation.
“Before my momma even got sick, she was just telling me to keep going, just keep going no matter what,” he said. “That f****d with my head, she wants me to keep going crazy. She didn’t want me to feel bad about nothing.”
Chop told XXL his mother’s death made him grow up “super harder.”
“I’m 22 but it just shocked me like, damn,” he said. “I took my momma everywhere with me when I was on the road. I let her travel with me to different places, interviews, all that. I lost my grandmother the year before that. I lost two important people in my life; I’m really numb to it. I felt it but its like, s**t, what’s next?”
Chop’s mom made an appearance in episode six of Noisey’s Chiraq docu-series that was released in January 2014.
