Chicago artist Lil Shawn, born Shawn Randall, was charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed a rival gang member in front of his children in broad daylight, according to the Chicago Sun Times.
Vallan Francis, 22, was enjoying family time on the front lawn of his home Friday afternoon with his fiancé and three children, ages 3, 4 and 7, when he saw Lil Shawn bicycling down the street. Vallan and his fiancé scrambled to gather their children and their play items.
Lil Shawn hopped off of his bicycle and boldly walked toward Francis’ house with a black hoodie pulled tightly around his face, DNAinfo.com reports. Shawn reportedly shot Francis four times as he reached for his daughter’s bicycle. Francis’ fiancé and three children watched in horror as the shooting occurred.
Francis was taken to St. Francis Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Lil Shawn was captured in surveillance footage riding a bike in the direction of Francis’ home and running away after the shooting.
Shawn was on electronic monitoring at the time of the shooting and was gone from his home for over nine hours. He left his home at 12:52 p.m. on the day of the shooting and didn’t return until 10 p.m.
Shawn was on probation for a 2014 drug-possession conviction. Shawn, who was sentenced to two years probation, has violated his probation seven times. He currently has two pending violation charges.
