In a rally organized by the Louisiana State University chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, demonstrators wore hooded sweatshirts and carried red bags of Skittles candy this past weekend, the Advocate reports.
The demonstrators, which included college students and parents with children, appeared at the candle light rally to protest the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was killed by neighborhood watchmen George Zimmerman.
Zimmerman reported Martin as “suspicious,” as the teen was walking back to his father’s fiancé’s home from buying Skittles candy and an Arizona ice tea from a local 7-eleven.
Zimmerman told police Martin appeared to be “on drugs” and that he was up to “no good.” He pursued the teen and an apparent scuffle followed. Zimmerman shot and killed the teen claiming “self-defense.”
“That could have been me,” LSU student Kenneth Lockett, 19, told The Advocate.
