An unarmed college student was shot and killed March 24 by Pasadena police after being mistaken as a robbery suspect, PressTV reports.
Pasadena resident Oscar Carrillo reportedly notified authorities he was robbed at gunpoint for his computer and backpack. It turns out he lied to police about robbed with a weapon.
Carrillo made up the lie, so cops would respond much faster.
Kendrec McDade, 19, was killed after police thought he was reaching for a weapon after they accosted him. No weapons or stolen items were found on him.
Police are now charging Carrillo with involuntary manslaughter for their mishap. They cite Carrillo’s false claim of the perpetrators having weapons.
McDade’s death comes as the country tries to makes sense of Trayvon Martin’s death. The unarmed 17-year-old was shot and killed by a neighborhood watchman as he was walking back to his father’s fiancé’s home from the store from picking up snacks.
