As a veteran and multi-platinum recording artist, 50 Cent knows a thing or two about success in the music industry. 50 Cent was one of the hottest artists on the underground scene before signing a multimillion-dollar deal with Interscope.

But being a hot underground artist will not always translate into success. 50 Cent said hard work on the artist’s part would generate success, not the label.

“In this day and time, artists need to join public before they meet the record company,” 50 Cent said. “When you work, you work. He’s going to know that you were the right guy. That’s it. When they wait, they waiting for the label and the label waiting for you. When you got the momentum, you got the ball rolling.”

50 Cent praised Hip Hop newcomer Kendrick Lamar for successfully implementing the strategy to success.

“Like Kendrick, they didn’t do that. Kendrick did it,” he said. “They was working.”
